Egremni (or Egremnoi) Beach
Lefkada, a stunning island in the Ionian Sea, is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves breathtaking natural beauty and clear turquoise waters. And among all its picturesque beaches, one stands out for its raw and untamed beauty – Egremni (or Egremnoi) Beach.

Located on the west side of Lefkada, Egremni is the second southernmost beach after Porto Katsiki. With its crystal-clear water and more than 2 km long stretch of pristine white pebbles and stones, it’s not difficult to see why it’s considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece.

Getting to Egremni Beach
But getting to Egremni is not for the faint of heart. The beach is surrounded by a towering cliff that rises almost vertically from the water. To reach it, you’ll need to walk approximately 1 km on an asphalt road and then descend around 400 steep steps. The journey may not be easy, but it’s definitely worth it! Once you arrive at the top of the steps, you’ll find kiosks where you can grab a drink and a snack to refuel for the journey down to the beach.

If the thought of all those steps sounds like too much, you can always opt for a boat cruise from Vasiliki or Nidri, which will take you directly to the beach.

If you forget your own umbrella, no problem! There are umbrellas available for rent on the beach, so you can stay cool and protected from the sun.
Nature’s Resilience and Beauty
Unfortunately, Egremni Beach hasn’t always been this accessible. In November 2015, a devastating earthquake caused a massive landslide of the cliff behind the beach, almost completely destroying it. But thanks to the hard work of local authorities and the tourism industry, the beach has been restored and opened to the public once again, starting from 2021.

Despite the disaster, Egremni remains wild and beautiful, with crystal-clear turquoise water that sparkles in the sun. The beach is also surprisingly serene, with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the natural surroundings. Whether you’re here to sunbathe, swim, or just relax, you’ll find plenty to love at Egremni Beach.
